The Angel in Rome
Next to the Tiber river, to the west side of Rome, a fortress stands and guards the city for over a thousand years - Castel Sant'Angelo.
As we cross the bridge, Ponte Sant'Angelo, marble angels greeted us from both sides. Coming to the end of the walkway, The Angel oversees us from the top of the castle.
Making our way up to the top, it was certainly a worthy hike. We were rewarded with a complete view of Rome and the Vatican City with its main road leading up to Basilica San Pietro.
The secret passage connecting Basilica San Pietro to Castel Sant'Angelo is still visible. Leaving room to imagine all the history took place here. Once a mausoleum for Hadrian, a fortress for the Pope and now a museum for everyone. The Angel witnessed rises and falls of the city.
